Biography

In the mystical depths of the swamp, where the humid air vibrates with the soulful essence of funk, a legendary band known as River Bottom Funk emerged.  With their irresistible melodies and swamp-infused rhythms, they become a formidable force in the local music scent.   Sit back and delight in the story of their extraordinary journey.

The swampy odyssey of River Bottom Funk began with guitar bender and charismatic front man, Joshua Small.   Hailing from the small town of Bangor, Maine amidst the rugged landscapes and rolling rivers, Josh’s soul resonated with the blues.  His guitar-playing and raw vocals captured the essence of the river, intertwining the heartfelt emotions of the blues with the infectious energy of the funk.

Brad O’Brien, the bassist, brought a touch of Rhode Island flavor to the swampy mix.  Growing up in the coastal state known for its vibrant music scene, Brad’s fingers effortlessly glide along the fretboard, delivering deep, resonant basslines that weave the bottom end right through the very fabric of the music.  His mastery of the low end provides the band’s foundation, blending the spirit of the swamp with a touch of East Coast funk.

Joe “the Good Twin” England, is the oldest and funkiest member of the band.  Residing in a small town in Maine called Brewer, Joe’s roots run deep in the New England river tradition.  His drumming prowess is unparalleled, infusing the band’s music with relentless groove that echoes the heartbeat of the river itself.   Joe’s soulful spirit and years of experience propel River Bottom Funk to new heights.

River Bottom Funk is comprised of a group of eclectic musicians, each bringing their unique flair to the band’s sound.  But perhaps none of the other members bring the kind of flair that Lincoln Blake, a talented multi-instrumentalist with a penchant for individuality, brings to the Funk.  Lincoln truly brings his own touch of mystery to the mix.  Lincoln is a bit of a loner, preferring the solitude of his creative space.  He is often seen wearing a kilt that symbolizes his free-spirited nature and love for self-expression.  Adding to his eccentricity, he often wears a Viking helmet as a testament to his adventurous nature.

United by their shared love for the funk and a deep connection to soul, River Bottom Funk embarked on a mission to bring their unique sound to the world.  Their journey took them from the smokey bars nestled in the heart of Central Maine to the lively coastal towns filled with hungry for the groove funk fans.   Wherever they play, the Funk leaves a trail of infectious grooves and swaying bodies in their wake.

Today, River Bottom Funk continues to explore the depths of the swamp, captivating audiences with their infectious energy and soulful melodies.   Viking helmet and all, the band continues to push the boundaries of funk, leaving an indelible mark on the heart of Central Maine.
