Biography

River Bottom Funk is a Maine-based five-piece delivering groove-driven live sets across blues, rock, country, jazz, and yacht rock. Built on deep pocket, strong musicianship, and a working-band mentality, the group focuses on one thing above all: keeping the room with them from the first downbeat to last call.

Led by guitarist and vocalist Joshua Small (also performing as Lewiston Jones), the band blends feel and flexibility—stretching out on instrumentals like In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and dialing into crowd favorites like Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) without losing momentum.

The lineup features Brad O’Brien (bass) and Joe “The Good Twin” England (drums) holding down a steady, unshakable groove, with Becky Bowden (keys) and Matt Walton (guitar) adding harmonic depth and dynamic interplay that give the band its full, layered sound.

River Bottom Funk holds a weekly residency at The Annex by Side Street Cafe in Bar Harbor, performing every Thursday night from 8–11 PM. The show has become a go-to for locals and visitors looking for live music with range, energy, and no cover.

From Central Maine to the coast, the band has built a reputation for versatile sets, tight playing, and the ability to read a room and deliver.

The name’s a nod to Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas—and like that reference, it tends to land best with people who know.
